Day 8 - August 3
Nanortalik, Greenland
Tendered into the small town of Nanortalik. It has a population of around 1500 so our ship nearly doubled it's population today!
Loved this street sign.
They had all these frames around town. We couldn't decide it there were information plaques missing or if you we suppose to frame something. So I tried.
Turned out pretty good. I'm not sure the others worked as well.
Lots of beautiful wild flowers here too!
Visited the Nanortalik Museum. It was small but had some nice examples of Greenlanic clothing, ships, and basket weaving.
We were told that the house numbers in Nanortalik are based in when the house was built. Making it hard to find an address.
Sounds like locals will just tell you "it's the yellow house next to the blue house" unfortunately they seem to only have a few different colored buildings!
Loved this rock face!
Steve climbed more stairs to this lookout boulder. He got some great photos.
They had musicians around town playing guitar, keyboard, and this choir who were fun to listen to.
Found this nice watercolor in the art shop.
Couldn't resist this iceberg that looked like an otter from this angle.
It looked more like Snoopy from this angle.
In Search of Icebergs Excursion
Our excursion today in the 35 degree weather was a trip on this boat to get up close to icebergs.
The view of the town from the water.
Managed to spot a seal swimming among the icebergs. Sadly still no whales.
Cruising Prince Christian Sound
After our 1pm departure from Nanortalik, we sailed the coast of Greenland, then worked our way into the Prince Christian Sound for a 6 hour cruise through amazing scenery full of waterfalls, glaciers, and even a few seals!
