Day 16 - August 11
ĺsafjördur, Iceland
I woke up around 5am and happened to see this beautiful shot of the moon and the sunrise.
For our return trip to Isafjordur we scheduled a whale watching trip by rib (Rigid inflatable boat) Due to high speeds and small size we got to wear these ever so stylish and comfortable survival suits.
We had to straddle our seats which was no easy feat wearing the survival suits. I also didn't expect to be saddle sore after the trip!
The whale were amazing. We drove past two whales I spotted in the distance which told be the captain knew where there were more!
We came to an area where there had to be at least 20 Hum[back whales feeding. You could see blows all around us.
No marine mammal protection act regulations in Iceland apparently. They drove us was closer than 100 yard from the whales. Very exciting, but made me feel very guilty that we were harrassing them.
We were so close we got some amazing views of their blowholes and tubercles (hair follicles).
This whale has seen the propeller of a boat at some time in the past.
This jellyfish floated right next to the boat.
It was a great trip and the survival suits did come in handy as it was cold out there!
