Day 15 - August 10
Reykjavík, Iceland
In Reykjavik, we took the provided shuttle bus to the Harpa building. It is really cool with all the angles adn fun window shapes.
We also found this fun sculpture bench near another building that we really enjoyed the use of glass and stone.
Our favorite part of Reykjavik was meeting up with Erik, Vicki & Mark who were on the island visiting relative in Keflavik. The picked us up and we headed to a couple museums.
We parked the car in town and walked around looking for a good lunch spot.
We passed by the Hallgrimskirkja Church.
The whole town was decked out for the Pride celebration that we missed by a day.
This rainbow road however, is a permanent fixture. So many good restaurants and shops to choose from.
After lunch we headed past the harbor and saw this "street" outside a Burger restaurant!
Our last stop of the day was to the Whales of Iceland Museum. They had amazing life-sized models of whales found in the oceans and seas around Iceland.
The male Narwhal's tusk is actually the left canine tooth that can be up to almost 10 feet long!
The long finned pilot whale had a very happy smile.
It was really amazing to get a real sense of how big they are!
Blue whale.
I do feel like this humpback is fatter then they are in nature, though maybe I just used to seeing them in Hawaii when they aren't eating!
I love watching the birds flying by the ship everyday. They were flying especially close while we sailed out of the Reykjavik harbor.
Just as we were getting ready for dinner, I spotted some whales off the ship. All the birds around them tells me the food was in large supply!
Off in the distance I saw some breaching. I initially thought they were minke whales, but when I zoomed in I can tell they were white-beaked dolphins common to Iceland.
